This is a short in the Ribon Mini furoku collection, #4, 2007. I haven’t finished reading it yet, but it’s set in Okinawa (manga usually seem to go for the big-city settings), and, so far, dwells a bit on the differences between Okinawa and “mainland” (as it were) Japan.
Lots of talking about beaches, how the kids think there’s nothing to do, how there’s no train in Okinawa, etc.
Fun word thing, though!
One of the kids calls a guy-hungry, insincerely flirtatious classmate a “habu.” Apparently, a habu is a variety of viper, very poisonous and native to Okinawa. Guess being called a snake isn’t particularly complimentary most places…
